How many hours do I have to separate an adult dog, for potty breaks?

And how many times a day should I walk by an adult Dog for potty breaks? Once or twice? I just went my adult dog once a day is for months. And I'm a little worried too. She is a Shih Tzu and she is over a year old. But she stays all day after a 30 minute potty break, a day ?…. I live in an apartment in the city. ;)

ie, before work, after work, before – the opportunity should go out of bed every 8 hours. This may be complications in their urine and digestive tract from "It was" too long. Also, make sure they always get enough exercise and attention for a little race game in a hallway for 30 minutes be sufficient, but walk 30 minutes or more at least once a day is good for both of you. It will make you the opportunity to contact them strange dogs, people distracted and places that make you be quiet and confident, not a chance, their brains by practicing her obedience training exercises and tricks mentioned places. If a long walk in the morning is the only chance she has, out, consider puppy pads or doggy litter box (I usually do not confirm), so that they can free at other times for the sake of their health.

Who is considered the best dog / puppy training facility?

Our 8Mo old puppy seems to have a very short span of attention span. We assume they the line to "potty" and if there is something or someone else around, she is distracted and does nothing. It can be a bird, a car, person or just sniffing in the wind. She has learned to obey "sit" and "Shake" (offering a paw) commands. Has not learned "down" or "stay". We think it is "ADHD". Any suggestions?

Puppies like babies have short attention span span. But you're smart, obedience training be considered. Find trainer who is an animal behaviorist, and you should be fine, no matter who you choose. Call your local vet's office to see if they can recommend one. I would stay away from PetSmart. I have the way they train and seen it is not the best. I have trained my two dogs when they were puppies. I took her every Saturday for an hour and it was great. I learned a lot. And depending on what type of dog you have, you can really really need the training. I have 2 miniature schnauzers, intelligent dogs are stubborn.

Do you think we need a different name for puppy miller?

I read this article: But would http://forum.dog.com/forums/t/75548.aspx I do not buy from a pet shop or puppy mill, but (in part) puppy miller was far in my opinion. They seem to really do it proper care, Treatment and their dogs, the breeding of healthy dogs and improve their image. Not to mention the fact that they are valuable allies in the fight against anti-dog legislation. There are some really bad ground breeders are like the ones you see in the reveals. I do not think that this conscientious breeders together with those bad breeders are grouped, although they certainly do not belong in the "responsible breeder" category either. What do you mean? Should there be a fourth category (in addition to puppies Müller, growers and breeders responsible) for the mass production breeders, short of the requirements of a responsible breeder, but still good to their dogs to educate, to dogs and are much better than the breeder stereotypes "puppy miller"?

Hello. This is a really important question and subject for that matter. I would agree that responsible breeders at different levels. My concern is that on some level, while the physical Needs of a dog can be achieved, the emotional needs can not be met. I think that set the standards of the USDA, and other organizations in the breeding regulations are involved, should be increased significantly. On the other hand, a large percentage of dogs that end up in shelters, ect … are due to irresponsible Owners. I resolve to not have the perfect answer to these problems, but education would be an important part. Unless someone [breeder or owner], the abuses a dog or any animal for that matter, I think the punishment should be swift, expensive, and include time behind bars. As far as a name for a forth category, you mentioned it in your question. The key word is "conscientious objection".

What is the best dog food brand for a Shih Tzu puppy?

I want to get ProSeries puppies. but I have heard that it was a Eukanuba good brand. in not quite sure what to my Shih Tzu puppies give in going on. any suggestions?

The best food for your dog is a raw food as BARF If it is a dry food or canned food, you are looking for is one of the best food is easily available around wellness. This brand can be in any pet store found worth its salt be. It's not cheap, but none are of high quality food. When choosing a dog food, look for: – A genuine source of identified meat as the first ingredient. For example, search for "chicken", "lamb", "fish", etc. Skip all "meat" or unidentified source lists these priorities as to kill almost anything, including dog and cat meat or on the road. – At least one more meat ingredients identified in the next 3 ingredients. These meals are often or by-products, which are fine as long as they are not the first ingredient. – No corn, wheat, soy or. – No artificial anything. – Made in the USA. (I think Canada is safe also to avoid China. Other good foods to consider: By Nature Organics, Innova Evo, Blue Buffalo and Canidae. Brands, often by those who do not properly Research are recommended Iams, Eukanuba, Hills (Science Diet), or any other brand you more likely to be in your local supermarket or discount store. These foods are with all sorts of things that is not well stocked for your pet, and poor nutrition is responsible for all kinds of kitty problems, including cancer made.

Am I doing the right thing with my puppy crying?

We have our 10 week old female Rottie 10 days. I have had Rotties and other puppies before; But for the 1 Time I am crate training. The problem is she cries / barks every night when we go to bed (in the kitchen – let's not forget that our dogs upstairs) for up to 45 minutes, then she sleeps for 2-3 hours, then howling / barking again, and this process is repeated throughout the night. We usually go to bed at 11 Clock, I have my alarm clock for 3 to take her outside and we clock at 06.45. She is awake now and crying before my alarm clock rings, but I do not know if I am to her let then do all the forums / books that you are not on them when they cry / tell to go bark. Is to stop this is to ignore them when I – we really need something Sleep! When I put them in their crate during the day, even for very short time, she cries too. Really do not know what to do – has never had a dog aloud. Many Thanks for your suggestions. (Have you tried radio, night light, clock, water bottle without success.) Please help.

No, at this age, the box must be of the bed, night Light on so they can see and play a soothing and calming CD or radio, she goes to sleep. Not forever, just while they are little at first. It is normal to protest the box at that age, but they must be somewhere, so that they see and calms you have not given up. You are right, at this age, they can be alone and keep pot for two hours so that a timer or alarm clock and set up and take potty. I was a little game time after Potty, so they do not think she goes potty and right back in the box. I use a crate * to potty train with, but only for potty training and then I save it and tear down. I have blankets and a small food and water bowl in the crate. Dogs do not potty where they sleep and eat. When she first little, I only expect them to hold their potty for 4 hours, and then 6 hours, 8 hours and so on. So when they are first little, I have a timer or alarm clock wake me up at night, it is +. I only allow my puppy in the bedroom * or the living room, one room at a time. You have to complete to make more room. If I they have to have full run of the house, it will overwhelm you. I take them from the same door each time. I tie a dinner bell on the doorknob. Do not use a jingle Bell, as they could get their toe caught her. So if they are small, ring I the bell for them, and * then open the door to potty outside to go. When they get bigger, I take their paw and whack the bell and the door to go potty. Finally, know the place where the puppy will ring the bell and let me know if they need to go potty. Dogs want to please you, it's your job to let them know what behaviors please you and what not. So when my Puppy potty goes, I give her a * joy and clap, and make a fuss and praise. So she learns that make additional outside makes me happy. If she has an accident make a disgust sound like "TSST" and take it off immediately. I never yell * or spank * my puppies. Take them, when they first Time to wake up after they eat or drink, before nap, finish romping, when to change their activity, or when they sniff. Some puppies go pee right away can do not go poop until 10 minutes later, so wait for the cabin. I have a little play time here, because sometimes I think they are done, and they are not. Puppies Train at their own pace. While I can still a puppy, which had been an accident in several weeks, I can not think off guard. I do not expect my puppies as "full Potty trained "until one year old. Shake if they have a setback it off and start over. I only have my puppies in the crate if I do not to see them. When I sleep, cooking, ironing, do chores, basically when I'm not watching them. At all other times, they must be practiced from the chest, a "big Girl. "This is the time I train her how to behave in the house. So we are practicing" no barking "," No biting, "" no Jump "and" do not eat the furniture. "I also have to practice" with "inside, so it is not to knock over things. You must Dog to keep in mind when they are little because they do not know the difference between newspaper and carpet, and you do not do it secretly to get out and into trouble. Some Puppies can sleep through the night around 3-months old, but their bladder is grown around 6-months old. REVISIONS: * I use a crate train. It is the method that I prefer, compared to other methods I have tried. I noticed that when they are in the crate, while I'm home work, they are fine, because the Crate allows them to see me and saved again. The box can also be a comfort when stored in the basement for dogs who live in areas where thunderstorms and tornadoes are a problem. . However, use the method that is best for you ….. a laundry basket, a cardboard box, a wrap-wrap house, x-pen, child gates, whatever works for you. * Outside pee pad, litter box, which method you use. If the puppy is first little, keep the pee pad, litter box near the food and water bowl, so that the puppy can eat and drink, and then go potty. You can further away as they get older. The pee pad has a scent that smells and initiates potty. Sometimes a pee pad makes a sound that scares some puppies, so you may want to use a litter box if that happens. The pee pad allows a puppy to go around, but a litter box keeps the dog in one place. * Bedrooms, I use the bedroom and living room for training, because it works for me. Select You spaces that work for you, but look for rooms that are damp, draughty or. While my puppies sleep in the bedroom during training, once They are trained, I let them sleep where they want. You do not always sleep in the bedroom. * Handles. While I use treats for training, need Do not step on. I like Charlee Bears for training (a little cracker for a little mouth,) I use them for training, but if they are trained to cut I WILL be back. * Some puppies go potty in the same place every time. Some puppies have to say, are to go potty. A command like "go out" for pee, or "go finish" for poop, can work for you say, always, "go finish" until the puppy poops. This is to train a good thing when you travel with your dogs. By using commands, the puppy will not be confused when you visit someone, on vacation with you, or if You can get a new home. The command will tell them what you want to make them at an undisclosed location. You may want to use a leash method, so does the Puppy not steal, or for strange places. * Cries. It's not a good idea to "yell" or "spank" your puppy and then take them outside, if they have an accident. They may be confused and think that is going out the punishment. While you want to correct them, if you are extreme, they can not Go back outside. Shake it off and take your schedule. You have to make it real. Puppies train at their own pace, but a puppy can only their potty for a few hours. A guide would be 1 hour for every month of age, plus 1 hour, a three-month-old puppy should only be expected, their potty for 4 hours to hold at most. SOURCE: These tips, tricks, and ideas were contributed from many brilliant minds. Thanks for your help!

dog training biting

How long should a dog be muzzled?

My dog bites .. a lot. She's been training for professional dog, and what me have not. She bites, if they do not get what she wants, she bites when she plays. the person who had encouraged us before biting, while of the game. now we have a monster. So we bought a muzzle. We do not want them to always be wearing a muzzle, but they bite all day long … as often should they are fed up?

If this is a basket muzzle, it may in the longer term, because the dog can be left to drink and pants to wear. If there is a solid Snout, which keeps the mouth is closed, then not more than 10 minutes as panting, which cools the dog. Putting a fixed muzzle a dog during hot weather is a death sentence. Heat stroke in dogs is not nice.

potty bell and using the target stick?

what’s your opinion on using the target stick when training a dog?
what are the pros & cons of using it? what commands does it work well with?
I use the clicker when training my dogs and it works great, i saw the target stick and wondered if it would be beneficial.
Also i’d like to train my dogs to use the “potty bell” but they don’t seem very interested in it and don’t understand what i want from them. please help us!

On the “potty bell”, I used this for my bichon (which she isn’t entirely obedient). I found that she quickly picked this command up. First tie a jingle bell on a string and tie it to the doorknob (low enough for the dogs to ring). Then have someone else ring the bell and let them outside. Continue to have this person demonstrate to the dog that if the bell is rung, the door will open. Also, if they have to potty, ring the bell a couple of times before they open the door. I am not sure if you were talking about an electronic bell, but this policy would work as well

I don’t know much about the target stick. It is much harder for a pup to unlearn something then to teach it correctly in the first place. I posted links. :)

Best Wishes for training!

edit: As for bell vs. bark. The bell is far less obnoxious to hear when your dog needs to potty. Especially while training!
