Hunting Dogs Vs Show Dogs – What is the difference?

Last winter I had a number of Sportsman Shows visited during the northeast where I performed numerous Waterdog retrieving demonstrations, shows the versatility of the English Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever. What amazed me was when talking to the average outdoorsmen not the fact that they were unaware of a spaniel or the Labrador Retrievers' versatility, but rather that they were not aware that there is a difference between Show and field hunting dogs.

During the show I was absolutely amazed at the number of outdoorsmen of Avid, which had little, if any, understanding of the qualities that go into breeding world-class gundogs. At the meeting, showing tens of thousands of outdoorsmen and sportsmen of enthusiastic, I venture to suggest that is better than 70% the people I know can not be satisfied that such a difference exists. Set the same people, which would gauge or shot size they hunting use kind of upland game or waterfowl and they could easily rattle off the advantages and disadvantages of each.

So, why these people have, as a keen understanding on selecting the appropriate guns and loads but do not demonstrate an understanding in selecting a suitable hunting companion? The answer is a lack of education about the difference between show and field bred hunting dogs. Manufacturers spend countless dollars each year educating outdoorsmen on why a particular Brand or model of the shotgun is better than another when hunting their favorite quarry. However, if one with breeders about selecting a suitable hunting companion, many claim their dogs are bred for "hunt". This may not be true! For more than half a century, the sporting Dog breeds have gone in two separate directions when looking at properties after by professional breeders come. In contrast, by breeding strictly for performance over the past 30 plus years in the field-bred Labrador Retriever in a dog that look different from its counterpart, the show Labrador Retriever can run. They tend to vary in size and structure.

Just The Basics – Dog Obedience Training Tutorial

One of the most exciting aspects of a dog or a dog to do the pet training commands follow. How old must a puppy be it with training to begin?

My Chihuahua is 3 ½ months old. I would like to start training with him to stop chewing and biting. I use a few methods I learned in television and his way of working. Should I wait a bit, or is he old enough to learn? Thanks, J Stroud

How to pause the game, six-year-old dog from biting and biting leash?

We have a 6 year old Sheltie. It is a very intelligent dog and loving. But where we from, it's never been a puppy trained to bite interrupt the game. It will not bite hard at all, but it is annoying when They're just trying to stroke them, and they prefer to play with the hand, or go after my rock, etc. They also biting on the rope and pulls it to her. When my younger dog was, we had a peppermint spray that we used to punish them, it did not hurt, but she loved him and had the idea. My neighbors also have hot sauce before. Help leash training my new dog. (Jack Russell Terrier)?

I bought a new puppy recently. She is a Jack Russell Terrier and she is very hyper. That said, she’s going to need to be walked alot to keep her at least sort of calm. But when I try and put her on a leash she just bites at the leash and very rarely even follows me or walks at all.

I would try her with a pup harness to start with. Put it on her each day to get her used to it. You dont say what age she is and if shes haad her shots and allowed to go out and mix with dogs.
If shes not ready to go on the ground, put her harness on then carry her in you arms and take her to see the sights and smells outside. She will learn to associate harness with fun time. My dog started with harness then I changed to collar just so she can wear her id tags but still walk her with harness. Up to you what you prefer but i dont like the idea of collar and leash around the neck if she chases birds she chokes.

Your pup needs to be socialised. This means getting used to outside and all the noises, cars, busses, bikes, voices, crowds. If u drive, take her on short trips. Buy a doggie harness so she is safe when she rides or you can put her in a carrier but secure it to the car seat please.This is a great bonding time also coz if she gets scared she knows you can reassure her when shes in your arms. Talk to her, tell her shes a good girl. She needs to recognise you as pack leader. Its early days and this is the time she will be soaking up information. Get her good toys to keep her occupied. Get A KONG. fill it with treats to keep her busy. Praise her all the time when she does good. She will soon follow you when she builds up her confidence.

12 week old puppy and severe hard mouthing?

I have had a blue heeler puppy for 4 weeks ( third one i have owned) and he cannot relax.he cannot interact with you without severe hardmouthing.
i am taking him to puppy pre school and have started regular training and have used the methods of separation, yelps, ouch etc but he treats that as a game and comes straight back at you. he will only relax and allow a scrath and or cuddle in the first three or four minutes of waking up before he starts the biting. Help please???
