Get Rid Of Cat Urine Smell – How To Remove Cat Urine odor

imageCats make such wonderful pets always there for you to pet them and just make your day nicer. Unfortunately cats also like to pee all over the place, and unlike dogs which you can house break and teach them not to do it. For cats it’s not a “just at first” kind of thing, while you can definitely teach your cat to use the litterbox (and I even know someone who manages to teach his cats to use the toilet..)

I personally could never get a 100% success rate with it. Which means that sooner or later you will walk into a room and get hit by that horrible smell of cat urine odor. Goods news is, this article has quite a few tips on how to remove cat urine smell which should help the situation.

Where Is The Cat Urine? Seeing how cats like to pee all over the place the answer will probably be “everywhere”. But different objects or surfaces on which a cat has urinated might require different methods of removal. If it’s something that you can put into a washing machine, then do that and just add about 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar to yoru regular detergent.

If it’s a flat surface like linoleum, tile or hardwood floors (or the top of a table.. love my cat!) then cleaning cat urine is fairly simple. If it’s on a large rug or carpet then it’s much harder, especially if you don’t find it right away and it dries up.

Removing Cat Urine If the pee hasn’t dried up yet, then use paper towels to absorb as much of it as you can (especially crucial on carpet.) Once all the urine has been absorbed use a mixture of 3/4 water and 1/4 vinegar (some recommend 2/3 water and 1/3 vinegar.) Pour the mixture over over the spot and then use paper towels to soak it up. Sprinkle some baking soda over the spot, then vacuum it up in a few hours or so. On a surface like linoleum you may not even need to use the baking soda.

How to Effectively Remove Dog Urine Odor

imageDog urine odor can be a huge problem for some pet owners. The highly objectionable odor can overtake even the toughest noses. The reason the odor becomes so strong is clear. Dogs tend to urinate in the same spot repeatedly. Cleaning up the urine often isn’t enough to deter the dog from returning.

A dog’s sense of smell is extreme. That’s why it’s so important to effectively clean away urine so that no odor remains. The task is a tough one, but it can be solved quite easily.

Of course, the first thing you want to do is clean away the urine with a good soapy disinfectant cleaner. Next, tackle the odor.

The best odor-removing cleaners are enzymatic. Most enzymes are proteins. When used in cleaning, they break down the molecules that are responsible for stains and odors. Because they destroy the cause, enzymatic cleaners are more effective than other cleaners to remove dog urine odor.

These products are relatively easy to find at your local pet supply store.

As an alternative, you can create your own effective cleaner that will remove dog urine and dog urine stains. You will need 3 parts water to one part vinegar, baking soda and dish detergent.

Cleaning up the urine can be difficult when carpets are involved because the liquid (urine and cleaner) will soak through to the floor beneath. While you clean the surface, the urine moves farther out of reach.

You want to get rid of as much urine as possible before you apply the cleaner.

The best way to do that is to place under the carpet a wad of newspaper or other thick paper that absorbs liquid. Put another wad on the top of the carpet and apply heavy pressure to the surface. You can do this by walking or standing on the paper, or by piling on heavy books and let it soak up. This will force the urine out of the carpet and onto the paper. Replace the paper as it becomes wet. Continue this technique until the paper is as dry as possible.

Now you are ready to apply your cleaner.

Saturate the area with your vinegar/water mixture and blot it up as before. Vinegar neutralizes odor and active ingredients in urine. Sprinkle baking soda over the area and follow that with a mixture of ¾ cup of hydrogen peroxide and a dash of dish detergent applied over the baking soda.

As you know, baking soda is another product that absorbs odors. (Many people use them in their fridges to get rid of food odors.)

You might want to test the hydrogen/detergent mixture on a hidden area of your carpet first to be sure it won’t cause a stain.

Work the baking soda, hydrogen/detergent mixture into the urine spot and leave it to dry on its own. Once it is dry, you can vacuum up the remains.

The key is to get out as much of the urine as possible before applying any cleaner. The more urine that remains the harder it will be to remove dog urine odor.

Dog urine inside your house is or should be a temporary situation until your dog is house trained. Then, your main concern will be removing odor urine odor from your garden. There are two ways to approach the problem outdoors.

First, rinse the area well with clear water, as soon as possible after your dog urinates.

1) Apply a vinegar/water solution liberally over the area, or use a store-bought urine cleaner

2) Spray the area with one of the products designed to keep dogs and pets off certain areas.

Once you have removed the dog urine odor, found a method to deter your dog from returning to that area, and have your dog house trained, dog urine odor will no longer be a problem.

Get Rid Of Dog Smell

imageIf you own a dog chances are you also own dog smell – such is the price of owning a dog. Unfortunately you cannot completely get rid of a dog smell (unless you also get rid of the dog.) However, a clean dog doesn’t smell that bad, when people say they want to get rid of dog smell, it usually falls under more unusual situation. Then again, can you really call it “unusual” if it happens pretty darn often? At any rate dog smell can be put into two categories:

1) The dog itself smells – there are a large number of reasons why this may be the case. However as this article is focused on category 2, we won’t be looking at this first category too closely. If a dog smells (really bad) you might want to give it a nice bath – dogs love to roll on all sorts of nasty things and that smell gets stuck to them, there might also be something stuck to a dogs coat or paws. It could also have some sort of infection that is producing the bad odor.

2) The dog itself doesn’t smell (too bad) but it has peed all over the place, and that certainly does stink. If this is the case then there are a few things you can do. Obviously try to clean up after your dog as soon as you can, if you let dog urine dry up.. well, you’ll wish you haven’t as the smell will get both much worse and be much harder to get rid of.

You can also use one of the many dog smell remover products (you can also use a vinegar and baking soda to do this.) You can try a product called Odaban. It is sold at Walmart, and by the gallon at Sam’s wholesale Club. It works very well and also kills germs, and is also inexpensive. You can also use enzymatic cleaners such as Simple Solution, Capture Pet Stain, Nature’s Miracle, Odor Neutralizer or Complete Pet Stain.
